WILLEMSTAD - The opposition party Partido Nashonal di Pueblo (PNP) has released a formal statement expressing concern over the growing uncertainty surrounding the internal conflict within the ruling party MFK. The PNP says that the lack of clarity from MFK regarding its position on the recent dispute between Finance Minister Javier Silvania and Receiver Alfonso Trona has led to “baseless speculation” in the community.
The statement, dated October 15, 2025, notes that the incident between Minister Silvania and Mr. Trona caused widespread consternation across Curaçao. According to the PNP, the MFK leadership previously assured the public that the matter would be handled “with fairness, equality, and seriousness,” and that the party would communicate its official position within the week following the incident. However, as of mid-October, no public statement has been issued by MFK.
“This ongoing silence has understandably given rise to all kinds of speculation and assumptions within our community,” the PNP wrote. The party also addressed rumors circulating on social media suggesting that the PNP has been in talks with MFK to keep the current government coalition intact.
“The PNP wishes to inform the community that these claims are purely speculative,” the party’s leadership clarified. “At this moment, there is absolutely no political contact with the MFK regarding the continuation of the government.”
The PNP emphasized that it remains a democratic and transparent organization. “If in the future the political landscape changes and it becomes necessary for the PNP to take a position, such a decision will be made only after consultation and with the full approval of the party,” the statement concluded.
The letter, signed by the Board of the PNP, underscores the party’s call for greater transparency from the MFK to prevent further unrest and speculation in Curaçao’s political environment.
