PNP MP Questions Prime Minister Over Minister Silvania’s Social Media Conduct

WILLEMSTAD – Member of Parliament Ruisandro Cijntje (Partido Nashonal di Pueblo – PNP) has formally called on Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas to address what he describes as “unprecedented” and “offensive” behavior by Finance Minister Javier Silvania on social media.

In a letter dated August 12, 2025, Cijntje asks the Prime Minister to clarify whether he condones Silvania’s frequent use of social media to directly attack individuals who disagree with him, including former Prime Minister of the Netherlands Antilles Maria Liberia-Peters, who holds the honorary title of “Minister van de Staat” for her service.

Cijntje notes that Silvania has been involved in previous incidents where his online remarks drew public backlash and required public apologies. “I genuinely believed he had learned from those experiences,” the MP wrote, “but it is clear this behavior has reached a breaking point.”

Silence From MFK

The MP also criticized what he called the “hermetic silence” of the MFK party faction regarding Silvania’s conduct, suggesting that such silence amounts to tacit approval.

Cijntje posed five direct questions to Prime Minister Pisas:

Does the Prime Minister approve of Minister Silvania’s conduct?

What value does the government place on someone being named “Minister van de Staat”?

Does the Prime Minister consider Silvania’s social media remarks out of order?

What can the public expect from the Prime Minister as the head of government?

Why has the Prime Minister not publicly addressed the direction in which the government is heading?

Cijntje stressed that these questions give the Prime Minister an opportunity to clarify the matter and demonstrate the leadership the people expect from the country’s highest office.

“As an elected representative of the people, I urge you to respond to these questions,” Cijntje concluded, thanking the Prime Minister in advance for his answers.

The Prime Minister has not yet publicly responded to the letter.
