WILLEMSTAD – Police carried out large-scale traffic inspections this week, resulting in more than 100 fines for various violations across Willemstad.
On Tuesday, August 19, officers from the Rio Canario police station conducted a major operation on Winston Churchillweg during the morning hours. A total of 156 vehicles were inspected, and 85 fines were issued. Offenses included driving without valid documents such as a driver’s license, insurance, or registration papers, as well as failure to pay road tax, missing license plates, and not wearing seatbelts.
Police also fined motorists for using their mobile phones while driving and for having windows tinted darker than the legal limit.
Second checkpoint on Nijlweg
The day before, on Monday, August 18, police held another traffic inspection on Nijlweg between 5:45 and 6:40 p.m. During that operation, 54 vehicles were checked and 26 fines were issued.
Similar to the Tuesday operation, most infractions involved missing or invalid documents, unpaid road tax, failure to wear seatbelts, and illegally tinted windows.
Authorities say these controls are part of ongoing efforts to improve road safety and enforce compliance with traffic laws. More inspections are expected in the coming weeks.
