WILLEMSTAD - On Thursday, November 6, 2025, Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas received Patrice Quesada, the Regional Coordinator for the Caribbean of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), during a courtesy visit at Fort Amsterdam.
The meeting focused on the work of the IOM in Curaçao, including an ongoing study assessing the economic and social impact of migration on the island. As part of this research, the IOM is consulting with both the public and private sectors to gather key data and insights.

Quesada also informed the Prime Minister that the IOM is collaborating with CARICOM to develop a regional migration strategy for the Caribbean, aimed at improving coordination, policy development, and protection mechanisms across the region.
During their discussion, both parties explored the possibility of establishing an IOM office in Curaçao, which would facilitate closer cooperation and strengthen the island’s role in regional migration management efforts.
The meeting took place in a positive and constructive atmosphere, emphasizing mutual understanding and the commitment to maintain a continuous dialogue for the benefit of Curaçao and the wider Caribbean.
