WILLEMSTAD – On Tuesday, September 2, 2025, Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas and Minister of Economic Development Roderick Middelhof visited the new Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) of Aqualectra at Hòfi Mooi, at the invitation of the company’s management.
The facility, with a capacity of 25 MW/45 MWh, plays a crucial role in stabilizing the island’s electricity grid by capturing fluctuations in wind energy. The stored power is connected to an advanced Energy Management System, which allows the batteries to feed electricity back into the grid during interruptions or even during a full blackout.
According to Aqualectra, the installation of the BESS is a major step toward improving reliability and ensuring a more sustainable energy future for Curaçao.
