Prosecutor Demands 180 Days in Assault Case Over Fuikdag Incident

WILLEMSTAD – The public prosecutor has demanded a 180-day prison sentence, largely suspended, against 33-year-old A.S., who is accused of assaulting a Dutch intern during a boat trip to Fuikdag in January 2024. In addition, the prosecution is seeking 200 hours of community service.

According to the victim, the confrontation began after the suspect allegedly touched her intimate parts without consent. When she confronted him about it, the situation escalated. On the quay, A.S. reportedly struck her in the face with his fist, leaving her with a broken nose and cheekbone and causing temporary facial numbness.

The victim, now back in the Netherlands, testified via video link before the court in Breda. She said her life has been drastically altered since the incident, citing insomnia, fear of walking alone at night, and the need for psychological support.

A.S. denied intentionally hitting the woman, claiming he only pushed her away after she allegedly attacked him. However, the prosecutor argued that the victim’s injuries could only be explained by a forceful blow and pointed out that multiple witnesses contradicted his account.

The court is expected to deliver its verdict on October 8.
