WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao-born artist Rita Mendes-Flohr will give an artist talk this evening at Landhuis Bloemhof, where she will reflect on the influence of Israel on her art and philosophy.
Living in Jerusalem since 1970, Mendes-Flohr will showcase photographs and installations from the past eight years. She will also speak about the role of art in conflict zones and the delicate balance between personal expression and a public voice. The program runs from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., with admission set at five guilders per person.
Mendes-Flohr is a visual artist specializing in photography and also writes creative non-fiction. She co-founded and served for twelve years as director of a feminist gallery in Jerusalem. Her artistic vision and worldview were deeply shaped by the activism of the 1960s in the United States, where she studied and lived in Boston between 1965 and 1970.
