WILLEMSTAD - What began as a battle for the top spot turned into an unforgettable showdown that captured both the competitive spirit and the hearts of the crowd. The teams from Rooi Santu and Fuik made street-football history this past weekend in the Van Straat naar Stadion competition, according to Fundashon Bicentini.
In a statement, the foundation described the match as “an unprecedented clash with a social heartbeat, in what became a legendary game.” The atmosphere, they said, reflected everything the youth-focused program stands for — emotion, community pride and fierce determination.
The match saw Fuik take an early lead with a 0–1 opening goal. Rooi Santu tried to respond but repeatedly ran into a solid defensive wall. However, everything changed after the break. Rooi Santu returned to the field with renewed energy and turned the match around spectacularly, ultimately winning 7–1.
“Both teams walked away as winners, heads held high, and full of fighting spirit,” Fundashon Bicentini said. The foundation emphasized that beyond the scoreline, the game showcased the resilience and passion of the young athletes — a core mission of Van Straat naar Stadion, which uses football to inspire and empower youth across Curaçao.
The competition continues to draw growing attention as communities rally behind their neighborhood teams, transforming local matches into powerful moments of unity and inspiration.
