Schools and Government Offices Closed in Curaçao Due to Island-Wide Blackout

WILLEMSTAD – All schools in Curaçao will remain closed on Wednesday, August 27, following the large-scale power outage that began in the early morning hours. Government offices are also shut down for the morning, the government confirmed.

Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, Sithree van Heydoorn, announced that students, teachers, and school administrators are not required to attend classes.

Government Offices Closed Until Afternoon

All government buildings will stay closed for the entire morning. Civil servants are expected to return to work at 1:00 p.m., provided electricity has been restored by then.

“Government offices will resume operations as soon as the power situation normalizes,” said Minister Kimberley Lew-Jen-Tai of Governance, Planning and Public Service.

Authorities are urging residents to monitor official government channels and the media for the latest updates on restoration efforts.

The cause of the blackout and the expected duration of the outage have not yet been announced.
