WILLEMSTAD – The From Street to Stadium street football tournament, organized by Fundashon Bicentini, brought excitement and passion to Curaçao’s neighborhoods this weekend, with surprising results and plenty of goals.
One of the biggest upsets came when Otrobanda defeated tournament favorite Mahuma with a 5-3 victory. It marked Otrobanda’s first win of the competition after an earlier loss.
Rooi Santu also impressed, storming to an emphatic 8-2 win over Welgelegen, a result that gave the team confidence following its previous draw. In response, Welgelegen announced plans to focus on strengthening its defense in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, Brievengat showcased its attacking strength by overcoming city rival Brievengat Pariba with a 9-5 triumph, despite Pariba scoring five goals.
Tournament founder Remko Bicentini stressed that the event is about more than just results. “The passion and respect with which these young players compete is what truly matters,” he said. Ambassador Sharelly Dominica added: “Taking part is more important than winning. This tournament is about building connections in our neighborhoods.”
With its high-scoring matches and spirited competition, the tournament continues to demonstrate its social value, using sport as a tool to empower young people and bring communities closer together.
