WILLEMSTAD - On Friday, October 3, the Leading with Integrity Foundation (LWI) successfully hosted its 8th Annual Integrity Conference, a well-attended event that brought together leaders from across the public, private, and social sectors.
The conference was honored by the presence of Her Excellency Lucille George-Wout, Governor of Curaçao; His Excellency Alfonso Boekhoudt, Governor of Aruba; and Mrs. Sharon Hassell, Acting Lieutenant Governor of St. Eustatius. Also in attendance were numerous business executives, government officials, and leaders from educational, social, and religious institutions.
Theme: From Science to Integrity
This year’s theme, “From Science to Integrity – Applying a Proven Worldview to Policy Design,” focused on how principles derived from science and moral philosophy can shape effective integrity management in both the public and private sectors.
The opening address was delivered by Dr. Albert Martis, Director of the Meteorological Service of Curaçao, who highlighted how science and integrity are intertwined—emphasizing that true scientific progress requires responsible and ethical application for the benefit of society.
Keynote presentations followed from Dr. Yves (Payo) Schoop, attorney Russell Ursula, and LWI President Nelson Foendoe, each offering insightful reflections and “food for thought” on how integrity can be applied in leadership and governance.
Interactive Sessions and Reflections
Participants engaged in table discussions to deliberate on the topics presented, followed by a plenary session in the afternoon where each group shared its conclusions. The conference concluded with an open dialogue between attendees and the keynote speakers, deepening the exchange of ideas on the theme.
A Worldview Rooted in Integrity
The conference sought to explore principles of integrity grounded in a proven Judeo-Christian worldview, which, according to LWI, has shaped the foundation of modern science and continues to influence daily ethics and moral practices.
“This worldview provided the framework for modern scientific and technological development,” explained Nelson Foendoe, LWI President. “In the same way, we can use this worldview to design an integrity system that truly bears fruit. Its roots continue to guide our daily actions and can lead us to genuine integrity.”
Positive Response and Growing Impact
Foendoe expressed great satisfaction with the outcome, noting that participants responded enthusiastically and praised the quality of the discussions.
“We are very pleased that this year’s conference was so well received,” he said. “Many attendees have already indicated that they will return next year — and have even encouraged others to participate.”
With its strong attendance, high-level participation, and practical insights, the 2025 edition of the LWI Integrity Conference reinforced its reputation as one of Curaçao’s leading platforms for promoting ethical leadership, transparency, and accountability.
