Tanja Fraai Bids Farewell to WeConnect After 12 Years of Service

AMSTERDAM – After more than 12 years of dedication, Tanja Fraai has stepped down as program manager of Stichting WeConnect. On August 28, her colleagues surprised her with a farewell talk show reflecting on the history and impact of the organization.

During the event, Fraai joined the table to share memories alongside guests who had collaborated with her over the years. Among them were former board chair Paul Comenencia, former secretary Ron van der Veer, current chair Gilbert Isabella, and outgoing Director-General for Kingdom Relations Roald Lapperre. Several WeConnect staff members also addressed her, while young professional Gilberto Morishaw honored her with a piano and vocal performance.

From the stories shared, a picture emerged of Fraai as a true connector, deeply committed to people and the Caribbean community.

Inaugural WeConnect Award

In recognition of her contributions, Fraai received the first-ever WeConnect Award, created to honor individuals who make an extraordinary impact within the Caribbean community. The award, a stone sculpture, will be passed on every two years, with Fraai selecting the next recipient for the board’s approval.

Building a Caribbean Network

Since co-founding WeConnect in 2013 with Mike Ho-Sam-Sooi, Fraai has worked tirelessly to create opportunities for Caribbean students, scholars, and professionals both in the islands and the Netherlands. Under their leadership, the foundation has grown into a highly respected organization with a vast Caribbean network and programs supporting students and young professionals at all stages of their careers.

A New Chapter

Effective September 1, Pam Evertsz has taken over as program manager. Fraai expressed full confidence in her successor: “Pam and WeConnect have been connected for years through our shared passion to bring Caribbean talent back to the islands. She knows her way both on the islands and in The Hague, where the ministries that support our foundation are based. Pam moves easily between Dutch and Caribbean cultures and has in-depth knowledge of Bonaire in particular. I am confident that under her leadership, WeConnect will take the next step forward.”

With Fraai’s departure, WeConnect enters a new phase, continuing its mission to strengthen the ties between the Caribbean and the Netherlands while empowering future generations.
