THE HAGUE - The Netherlands does not recognize parliament chair Juan Guaidó Márquez as interim president of Venezuela. "The core is not to recognize the assumption of power, the core is an end to the violence", according to minister Stef Blok (Foreign Affairs) today. President of the European Parliament Antonio Tajani now states that Nicolas Maduro has to leave, but unlike the United States and Canada, but also Spain and Denmark, the EU does not recognize Guaido as the new president.
The House of Representatives struggled with the recognition since Guaido yesterday appointed himself president. The army of Venezuela has now indicated that Nicolas Maduro is the only president. The coalition parties in the Netherlands want the seated Nicolás Maduro to go, but do not burn their fingers to the recognition of challenger Juan Guaidó. In the opposition, the PvdA argues for the recognition of Guaidó. On the other hand, the SP speaks of a 'coup attempt' against Maduro.
