Voters in Curaçao Can Cast Ballots for Dutch Parliamentary Elections at the University of Curaçao

WILLEMSTAD - Eligible voters in Curaçao can cast their ballots for the Dutch parliamentary elections between October 22 and 29 at the University of Curaçao (UoC) on Jan Noorduynweg. At this location, voters can both collect their voting certificate (briefstembewijs) and cast their vote immediately.

Registration for the election closed on September 17. Eligible voters include Dutch citizens who have lived in the Netherlands for at least ten years, those employed by the Dutch government in local service, and members of their households.

This year, the number of registered voters in Curaçao increased by 37 percent compared to 2023 — from 1,250 to 1,722 registered voters.

How Does Voting Work?

Unlike previous years, voting does not take place at the Representation of the Netherlands in Curaçao, but at the university. The Representation recommends voters to cast their ballot immediately upon collecting their voting certificate.

Voters must present a valid sedula or passport. Upon verification, they will receive a voting certificate, a white ballot envelope, and an orange return envelope.

Opening Hours

The polling station will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. between October 22 and 28, and from 7:30 a.m. to 2:59 p.m. on October 29.

It is crucial that all votes are received before 3:00 p.m. on October 29, as late submissions will not be counted.

Counting the Votes

The orange envelopes will be opened publicly, and staff will first verify the voting certificates and identification documents — but the votes themselves will not yet be counted at that stage.

The opening of envelopes begins on October 27, while the official vote counting will take place on October 30, both at the University of Curaçao. After the count, the results will be made public.

University students from UoC will also participate as polling staff, contributing to the smooth and transparent execution of the Dutch parliamentary elections on the island.
