WILLEMSTAD – Several streets in the Van Engelen and Mahaai areas were left without water for many hours yesterday, with some residents reporting outages lasting more than 17 hours. Utility company Aqualectra confirmed that the disruption was caused by a broken underground pipe near Perseusweg.
The affected area stretched from Perseusweg through Mahaai, Cas Coraweg, Van Engelenweg, and Heraweg. The outage began early in the morning, leaving many households unable to shower. According to local reports, some residents resorted to using packs of wet wipes to clean themselves.
Repair work proved challenging because the pipe break occurred underground. Aqualectra crews had to dig carefully to locate the exact source of the leak without damaging other cables and pipelines in the vicinity.
The company has not yet indicated whether further work will be required to prevent new outages in the area.
