WILLEMSTAD - Authorities have identified the victim of Thursday’s fatal workplace accident at Klein Santa Martha as Rudney Eleuterio Martina, aged 59.

According to police reports, Martina fell from scaffolding while working on the construction of a hotel and suffered severe injuries. Emergency services arrived quickly at the scene, but were unable to save his life.

The Labor Inspectorate has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident to determine whether safety protocols were followed at the construction site.

The incident has deeply affected coworkers and members of the local community, highlighting once again the importance of workplace safety measures in Curaçao’s growing construction sector.
