WILLEMSTAD – 2BAYS Curaçao and Energis N.V. have signed a cooperation agreement for the expansion of Energis’ biofuels activities in the Schottegat industrial area. This unique partnership involves investments from both parties and marks a significant step in Curaçao’s development as a leading biofuels hub in the Caribbean. The new biofuel operations are expected to launch in the second half of this year.
Energis, a subsidiary of the Swiss-based Clover Energy Group, is an international player in the sustainable energy sector. Through its production facility on Dokweg, the company processes 40,000 tons of biomass into sustainable fuels, making it the first and only biofuels producer in the region. This collaboration will allow Energis to further increase its biofuels production, positioning Curaçao as an innovative player in the global transition to sustainable energy.
2BAYS strongly supports this project as it aligns with its new strategy introduced in October 2024, which focuses on diversifying and expanding sustainable economic activities in the Schottegat and Bullenbaai industrial zones. To facilitate this, 2BAYS is investing in upgrading one of its piers, which will be used by Energis and other clients for new operations.
Meanwhile, Energis is investing in the construction of a new pipeline between 2BAYS’ pier and its biofuels production facility on Dokweg. Additionally, Energis will build new storage tanks to handle additional volumes of bio-based raw materials and fuels. These investments represent an important step in the further development of circular activities on the island, strengthening Curaçao’s position as a hub for sustainable energy.
Patrick Newton, Interim CEO of 2BAYS, emphasized the strategic importance of this collaboration:
"This partnership fits perfectly within our strategy to develop circular activities that contribute to the energy and raw materials transition. We are proud to work with Energis to support a more sustainable future for Curaçao and the region."
James Robbins, Managing Director of Clover Energy Group, added:
"With this collaboration, we take an important step in our mission to provide innovative and sustainable energy solutions. Curaçao is the leading biofuels hub in the Caribbean, and we are excited to contribute to and further strengthen this position."
