CMC Closes Outpatient Clinics Due to Ongoing Power Outage

WILLEMSTAD – The Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) has announced that all outpatient clinics will close after 12:00 p.m. today due to the ongoing island-wide power outage. Afternoon appointments will be rescheduled for a later date.

Since this morning’s large-scale blackout, the hospital has been operating on backup generators to ensure essential and emergency care. The Emergency Department remains fully open for urgent medical needs.

Surgeries Proceed as Planned

All scheduled surgeries will continue as planned unless patients are contacted directly by the hospital. Nursing wards are functioning normally, though air conditioning is being alternated between different departments, which may cause slight temperature fluctuations.

“We are closely monitoring the situation to ensure the comfort and safety of our patients at all times,” the hospital said in a statement.

CMC has promised to provide further updates as needed. The power outage, which began in the early morning hours, continues to affect the entire island. Utility provider Aqualectra has started restoration efforts but warns that the system remains fragile.
