Colombian Consul Highlights Strong Bonds Between Colombia and Curaçao

WILLEMSTAD The Consul of Colombia in Curaçao, Pablo Rebolledo Schloss, marked Colombia’s 215th Independence Day with a speech celebrating not only the country’s historic struggle for freedom but also the deep ties that unite Colombia and Curaçao. The event also commemorated 196 years of diplomatic relations between Colombia and the Kingdom of the Netherlands, including the Dutch Caribbean islands.

Speaking to the Colombian community and local guests, Rebolledo Schloss described the relationship between Colombia and Curaçao as a true “brotherhood,” forged through decades of family ties, cultural exchange, commerce, education, and tourism. “Colombia and Curaçao together are a living example of shared prosperity, integration, and strategic vision in the Greater Caribbean,” he said.

The consul praised the significant contributions of the Colombian community to Curaçao’s economic, social, and cultural growth. He highlighted how Colombians have strengthened the island’s labor force and professional capacity, helping Curaçao become a more active player internationally. “I want to applaud the warm welcome the people of Curaçao have given my compatriots—a symbol of unity between our peoples,” he added.

Rebolledo Schloss emphasized the consulate’s role as “an open door” for the more than 6,000 Colombians registered in the jurisdiction, which also covers Bonaire, Sint Maarten, Saba, and St. Eustatius. The consulate regularly visits these islands twice a year through mobile services, enabling Colombians to process documents and receive assistance closer to home.

Looking ahead, the consul outlined his vision of strengthening political, commercial, cultural, and educational ties between Colombia and Curaçao. He commended the Curaçao authorities for their willingness to work closely with Colombia toward shared growth and mutual benefit.

He closed by expressing heartfelt gratitude to the people and government of Curaçao for their ongoing support of the Colombian community and by extending best wishes for personal growth and family unity. He also thanked the Asociación de Colombianos en Curaçao (ASOCOLCUR), El Rincón Colombiano, and other volunteers for organizing the day’s celebrations.

A very happy July 20 to you and your families. Long live Colombia!” the consul concluded.
