Council of Ministers Approves New Initiatives on Lottery Reform, Sargassum Management, and Election Review

WILLEMSTAD – At its meeting on Tuesday, August 13, 2025, the Council of Ministers took several key decisions on national matters, including the future of the Landsloterij, measures to address the sargassum seaweed problem, and the handling of recent election observations. 

Overview of Pending SER Consultations 
The Council received a summary of all pending requests for advice from the Social and Economic Council (SER) as of June 30, 2025. The document will be archived for reference. 

CARICOM Election Observation Report 
Ministers took note of the report from the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) mission that observed Curaçao’s recent elections. The report will be forwarded to the Ministry of Governance, Planning and Public Service for consultation with the Electoral Council. 

Task Force on the Future of Landsloterij 
The Council approved the creation of a steering and working group to address the future of the state lottery, Landsloterij. The decision will be formally signed by the Governor. 

Temporary Working Group on Sargassum 
In response to ongoing environmental concerns, the Council agreed to establish a temporary working group to tackle the issue of sargassum seaweed affecting the island. This decision will also require the Governor’s signature. 

The measures reflect the government’s focus on administrative transparency, economic reform, and environmental protection.
