WILLEMSTAD – The government of Curaçao has announced plans to implement a new job classification system for civil servants, aiming to bring structure and fairness to the way public sector positions are evaluated and compensated. The initiative was discussed during a recent meeting with labor unions representing government employees.
Currently, no formal job classification system is in place, and positions are automatically assigned to pay scales without thorough evaluation. Labor unions have long criticized this practice and are now demanding concrete action, including formal agreements and compensation for positions that have already been adjusted without a clear framework.
“The unions are making it clear that they don’t want to just keep talking — they want to see real progress and measurable results,” government representatives stated after the meeting.
The introduction of a formal job classification system is expected to enhance transparency, improve morale within the public sector, and ensure fair treatment for civil servants across various departments. Further discussions are scheduled in the coming weeks to finalize the roadmap and implementation timeline.
