WILLEMSTAD – The Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) reported an increase in influenza patients as of yesterday, with 16 individuals hospitalized. The number has since risen to 19. The most common complication associated with the flu is respiratory issues. The influenza virus is the primary cause of the flu. In response to the rising number of cases, the hospital has implemented measures to better manage the situation for those admitted.
CMC has taken the precaution of separating influenza patients from others in the hospital. There are two main types of influenza: Influenza A and Influenza B. Patients diagnosed with Influenza A are placed together in designated areas, separate from those with Influenza B. Currently, most cases are Influenza A.
By segregating patients based on the type of flu, the hospital aims to prevent the spread of infections and ensure that each patient receives the appropriate treatment, according to CMC officials.
As Carnival celebrations approach, with the associated increase in gatherings, the hospital is urging the public to take preventative measures. Residents are advised to wash their hands regularly with soap and water and cover their mouths when coughing or sneezing to help curb the spread of the virus.
