WILLEMSTAD – On July 8, 2025, the official sessions of the 49th CARICOM Heads of Government Meeting concluded, and Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas and his delegation are looking back on a valuable and productive experience.
One of Curaçao’s key contributions during the conference was the announcement of its willingness to enter into tax treaties with CARICOM member states. These treaties aim to prevent double taxation and combat tax avoidance, specifically in areas such as income tax, corporate tax, and capital gains tax.
According to the Curaçao delegation, removing fiscal barriers—like double taxation—is crucial to boosting trade and investment within the Caribbean region.
Throughout the sessions, some of which were held behind closed doors, the Curaçao team had the opportunity to gain valuable insights while also sharing its own expertise with regional partners. Upon return to the island, the information and insights gathered will be shared with relevant ministries, helping to identify new opportunities and maximize Curaçao’s relationship with CARICOM.
“Together, we can build a prosperous Caribbean economy that benefits all our people,” Prime Minister Pisas said in his closing statement at the conference.
Curaçao’s engagement signals a continued commitment to regional cooperation and a stronger voice within the broader Caribbean community.
