WILLEMSTAD – Now we can stop wishing each other a Happy New year because, in Curaçao, it’s Carnival season. And when you talk about Carnival, for a local, the first thing that comes to mind is the Tumba Festival.
Yesterday, the Curaçao Music and Artists Association (AMAK) held its first press conference to announce the official dates of the Tumba Festival 2019. Secretary-General of the organization, Mr. Giovanni Atalita opened the conference by announcing that next year it will be the 50th anniversary of the Tumba Festival and there will be an exhibition in the shopping mall Sambil.
During the Tumba Festival, numerous artists compete to win the coveted title of Tumba King/Queen which will make their Tumba (song) the official anthem of this year's Carnival. The qualifying rounds (Monday - Wednesday) serve to select the finalists who will then compete in Friday's final round.
This year the biggest music festival on the island will be from February 4 until February 8 which is the Grand Finale. There the Tumba King or Queen will be announced.
