WILLEMSTAD – The Council of Ministers of Curaçao has made several important decisions regarding national governance, including a new education funding system, an economic cooperation agreement, and a new rental commission regulation.
New Education Funding System
The Council of Ministers has approved the action plan for the project "New Education Funding System Curaçao." This decision follows a review by the Chairman of the National Reform Committee Curaçao (NHC) on February 4, 2024, and a request from the Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports (OWCS) on February 18, 2025. The initiative aims to modernize and improve the financial structure of the education sector in Curaçao.
Economic Cooperation Agreement with Fekoskan
The Council also approved the revised draft Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Curaçao and the cooperative Kooperativa Fekoskan. The agreement is intended to enhance economic growth, sustainability, and progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The Ministers of General Affairs and Economic Development have been authorized to sign the MoU on behalf of Curaçao. This decision was based on a legal review from the Director of Legislation and Legal Affairs (WJZ) on February 10, 2025, and a formal request from the Minister of Economic Development on February 21, 2025. Additionally, the Council of Ministers has approved submitting the authorization decree to the Governor for signing.
New Rental Commission Regulations
The Council of Ministers has also acknowledged the 2025 Process Regulations for the Rental Commission, as presented by the Minister of Governance, Planning, and Public Service (BPD) on February 21, 2025. This regulation is expected to streamline rental policies and dispute resolution in Curaçao.
These decisions reflect the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance governance, economic stability, and public services across the island.
