Curoil in Talks to Build New Fuel Terminal in Blenheim, Eyes Regional Expansion

WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao’s state-owned energy company Curoil is currently in negotiations with 2Bays, the former operator of the island’s refinery, to develop a new fuel terminal in the Blenheim area. The planned facility is expected to enhance fuel storage and logistics efficiency, with an estimated investment of 250 million guilders.

The project is part of a broader strategic effort by Curoil to modernize its infrastructure and strengthen its regional presence. In addition to the terminal, the company is actively expanding its operations in markets such as Bonaire, Aruba, St. Maarten, and along the coastal region of Guyana.

A Step Toward Energy Independence

According to Curoil Director Yamil Lasten, the initiative reflects the company’s long-term goal of achieving greater independence and modernization since its separation from Venezuelan oil giant PdVSA in 2007.

“Our international activities are growing rapidly,” said Lasten. “Today, 70 percent of our revenue comes from exports and services like fuel supply to airlines and bunkering for ships. This positions Curoil as a major energy provider in the Caribbean.”

If finalized, the Blenheim terminal would mark a significant milestone in Curoil’s evolution from a local fuel supplier to a regional energy hub, capable of competing in a dynamic and increasingly integrated Caribbean energy market.
