Demonstrators call for fair trial in Schotte’s case

WILLEMSTAD - Through the Komishon Pro Hustisia pa Gerrit Schotte, which stands for Commission for Justice for Gerrit Schotte, the Member of Parliament for the MFK party, Gilmar 'Pik' Pisas made a call to supporters of Schotte to come to the Wilhelmina Plaza today.

A group of about 200 sympathizers of the former Prime Minister gave heed to the called and showed up today with signs demanding justice for Schotte. These signs read; “Give the Italian a chance to be heard! and “We want Justice for Gerrit Schotte! A Fair Trial for Schotte!”

Schotte will today ask the court to hear Italian Attorney General Roberto Pelikano. According to Schotte, the essence of Pelikano's message is that Anton van der Schans, the former Attorney General of Curaçao, on behalf of the Public Prosecutor, has distorted the truth in a trial against him.

Member of Parliament for MFK, Charles Cooper indicated to Curaçao Chronicle that his party and the sympathizers will continue to manifest until justice has been done for Gerrit Schotte. “This case is a farce, they used lies to lock Schotte up and we will do our utmost to get him out.”

Cooper declared that once Pelikano testifies, Schotte will not go free immediately but the case will be reopened, and his political leader will get a fair trial. Then he will be out in maybe 8 to 10 months.
