Dutch Cabinet Falls After PVV Withdraws from Coalition

THE HAGUE The Schoof Cabinet has officially collapsed following the unexpected withdrawal of the Party for Freedom (PVV) from the governing coalition. The move, announced this morning by PVV leader Geert Wilders, strips the government of its parliamentary majority and effectively marks the end of its term.

The sudden decision has sent shockwaves through the Dutch political landscape, especially as it comes amid critical national debates on migration and digitalization. These key policy areas are now expected to be put on hold.

Notably, State Secretary Zsolt Szabó, who was responsible for Kingdom Relations and Digitalization and served in the cabinet on behalf of the PVV, has also resigned. Szabó had recently visited Bonaire on official business. His spokesperson has so far declined to issue any further comment.

The fall of the Schoof Cabinet introduces a period of political uncertainty, with new elections likely to be scheduled toward the end of the year.
