FIU and Customs Curaçao to Launch Digital “Kiosk” System for Cash Declarations at the Airport

WILLEMSTAD - The Financial Intelligence Unit Curaçao (FIU) and Customs Curaçao are collaborating with Core Curaçao N.V. to develop a new digital reporting system called “Kiosk”, designed to help travelers arriving or departing from Curaçao’s airport register their cash and valuables electronically.

The new system, which will be introduced by the end of this year, aims to streamline the declaration process and enhance oversight of cross-border cash movements. Part of the project’s funding comes from the national Crime Fund.

Current Reporting Requirements

At present, travelers entering or leaving Curaçao must declare cash or valuables worth 20,000 guilders or more to Customs. Based on this declaration, a report is submitted to the FIU, which monitors potential money laundering or illicit financial flows.

Travelers are required to provide information such as their identity, the currency and amount of cash, and the origin and destination of the funds.

Faster, Clearer, and More Efficient

The new Kiosk system will fully digitize this process, eliminating paper forms and making compliance more efficient and user-friendly. It is designed to save travelers time while also reducing the likelihood of errors.

By automating the reporting process, the FIU will gain greater accuracy and faster access to financial data, enabling it to identify suspicious transactions more effectively.

The system will be rolled out in phases, with the potential for future expansion to other ports of entry and related financial reporting procedures.

Authorities hope the initiative will strengthen Curaçao’s defenses against financial crime while improving the traveler experience at the airport.
