WILLEMSTAD - Kenneth Gijsbertha takes over the position of Steven Martina for the time being. Martina announced yesterday to resign as Minister of Economic Affairs.
This is due to an investigation that has been initiated by the Public Prosecution Service in connection with shares in Guardian Group. In 2017, Martina was involved in a legislative proposal on maximum tariffs for liability insurance for cars. In order to decide this, he should have taken total distance from shares in Guardian.
According to Carlos Monk of the political party Korsou di Nos Tur, this is not the case. He filed a complaint against Martina on which the Public Prosecution Service is now going to investigate whether enough distance has been taken from the shares. Martina himself says that he firmly believes that this is the case. He distances himself from his position as minister to give the Public Prosecutor the opportunity to investigate the case.
