Government Orders Ministries to Store Data Backups at Blue Nap Americas Following Cyberattacks

WILLEMSTAD – The Ministry of Governance, Planning, and Service (BPD) has issued mandatory instructions to all ministries connected to Curaçao’s national cybersecurity framework, requiring them to store their data backups at Blue Nap Americas.

Minister Kimberley Lew-Jen-Tai said the measure comes in response to recent cyberattacks on several key government institutions, including the Tax Office, the Joint Court of Justice, the Central Bureau of Statistics, and the Parliament of Aruba. These incidents have revealed serious vulnerabilities in the government’s digital infrastructure.

“The situation has escalated to a level where it must be considered a security risk,” the minister stated. To prevent further damage and safeguard the integrity of government data, the ministry has set out a three-step directive:

All ministries must assess and document their existing backup infrastructure.

They must carry out a mandatory migration of these backups to Blue Nap Americas.

Within ten days, they must submit a report to the Ministry of BPD and the relevant minister detailing the status of their backup systems.

The directive underscores growing concerns about cybersecurity in Curaçao’s public sector, as attacks become more frequent and sophisticated.
