Health Minister Demands Clarity on Ambulance Issues from FKAK Board

WILLEMSTAD – Minister of Health, Environment and Nature, Javier Silvania (MFK), has formally urged the Supervisory Board of the Fundashon Kuido di Ambulans Kòrsou (FKAK) to provide clarity by this Friday regarding the ongoing problems with recently acquired ambulances.

The minister had already requested an independent internal investigation on June 2, followed by a second request on June 9 asking that concerns raised in a letter from union ABVO also be considered in the review. However, as of today, no response has been received from the FKAK board.

The issue gained renewed urgency following a public Parliament session on June 19, during which questions were raised about the operational readiness of the new emergency vehicles.

Minister Silvania is now insisting on a transparent update on the progress of the investigation, a clear assessment of concerns voiced by ambulance staff, and any corrective measures that may already have been implemented.

The controversy centers around functional and logistical issues with the newly purchased ambulances, including reports that some are unusable due to technical or infrastructural incompatibilities, such as being too large to fit in the designated areas of the Curaçao Medical Center.

With emergency services under pressure, the minister emphasized the critical need for full transparency and accountability from the FKAK Board to restore confidence and ensure public safety.
