Knops: Curacao's economic situation and finances are cause for concern

THE HAGUE - The economic situation of Curacao and the state of government finances are a cause for concern for the Dutch government.

Undersecretary Raymond Knops of Kingdom Relations writes this in the report to the Second Chamber of the Dutch Parliament on the working visit that he made to Curacao two weeks ago with Minister Kasja Ollengren of the Interior. It can be concluded from the report that the Dutch government is not yet ready to give an instruction as the Committee for Financial Supervision has advised.

About conversations in Willemstad, Knops writes: “We discussed how the Netherlands and Curacao can further shape the practical cooperation, building on the cooperation agreement that Prime Minister Rutte and Prime Minister Rhuggenaath signed early this year. We will continue this consultation in the lead-up to the discussion of advising the Financial Supervision Board in the Council of Ministers of the Kingdom."

At the end of his report, the minister mentions a new trade mission that will take place in the fall, in collaboration with VNO-NCW, to an investment conference in Curacao "that is right for concrete investments."
