MAN Party Demands Government Response on U.S.-Venezuela Tensions Near Curaçao

WILLEMSTAD – MAN party leader and Member of Parliament Giselle Mc William has criticized Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas for remaining silent on the growing tensions between the United States and Venezuela. In a statement on social media, Mc William stressed that Curaçao cannot ignore the presence of U.S. warships near Venezuelan waters, close to the island’s doorstep.

According to Mc William, MAN-PIN had already submitted questions on this issue to the Prime Minister back in May, but to date no answers have been provided. “Today we wake up with a tense situation, where America is sending warships right in front of our door, along the Venezuelan coast,” she said.

The opposition leader warned that Curaçao is being placed “on the spot” with all the potential consequences that an escalation between the U.S. and Venezuela could bring.

Call for action and transparency

Mc William urged the government of Curaçao, together with the Netherlands, to ensure that Aruba, Curaçao, and Bonaire remain designated as zones of peace and stability in the region.

She also called on Prime Minister Pisas to address the nation directly, informing the public about the situation and assuming his responsibility as head of government.

“The people of Curaçao deserve clarity,” Mc William emphasized.
