WILLEMSTAD – Aqualectra has proudly announced the operational integration of a new substation in Koraal Tabak, marking a key milestone in improving energy distribution for the eastern neighborhoods of Curaçao, including St. Joris, Santa Catharina, Cocorie, and Koraal Tabak itself.
Until now, the upper eastern regions of the island relied on substations located in Brievengat and Montaña. With the introduction of this more centrally located substation, residents in these areas will benefit from a significantly more stable and reliable electricity supply.
Connection work has already begun to integrate these neighborhoods into the new substation. All affected residents have been notified in advance by letter, informing them about the ongoing work and any potential inconveniences such as dust or noise.
Aqualectra emphasized that the transition process has been thoroughly planned to ensure the work proceeds as smoothly and quietly as possible. However, due to the technical complexity of the operation, there remains a small risk of temporary power outages during the switch.
The Koraal Tabak substation is part of a broader development strategy by Aqualectra to strengthen Curaçao’s utility infrastructure. The company is also preparing to integrate a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to further enhance grid stability and reliability.
This investment is one of many innovations Aqualectra is pursuing to ensure sustainable, high-quality, and dependable service for every household and business on the island.
