WILLEMSTAD - The Member of Parliament for the coalition party PAR, Stephen Walroud accuses union leader Errol Cova of being a supporter of the late Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez and thus works for PDVSA.
In a press release, Walroud says that he cannot come to another conclusion, given Cova’s actions of the past few days. “Cova pretends to be someone who stands up for the workers, but it is no more than a mask. Cova has long ago sold his soul and salvation to the Chávez government and the Venezuelan military who lead PDVSA. After his last visit to Venezuela, he was instructed to ensure that PDVSA retains the refinery after 2019. And now he must eliminate all obstacles,” said Walroud in his press release.
According to Walroud, the first obstacle was to put a stop as quickly as possible for the deal that Curaçao was about to conclude with the 'preferred bidder'. Cova succeeded. The second obstacle is to get Clift Christiaan out of the negotiation team and have him replaced by a person who is loyal to PDVSA.
“And, finally, Cova seeks in every possible way to get the Prime Minister to resign, by sowing a lot of chaos. We saw yesterday how the script of Cova is in full execution. One down, two more to go!” says Walroud.
Walroud holds Cova responsible for the burning of Sentro Pro Arte two years ago.
“Cova is old-fashioned and always looks for confrontation and conflict and refuses to disagree discuss disagreements at the table. The refinery belongs to all Curaçao and not just from the people who work there. After all, it is tax money that is spent on upgrading the CRU, for example, so that there are again utilities to start up the refinery and keep it running. We do not have to remain committed to PdVSA, which is currently unable to function. Cova is definitely blind?”
