WILLEMSTAD – Amid the ongoing Carnival celebrations and the early stages of the 2025 parliamentary election campaign, Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas has strongly criticized what he describes as deliberate attempts to discredit his administration, Gabinete Pisas II.
The Prime Minister, who also serves as the political leader of MFK, stated that while democracy allows citizens to choose their preferred political direction, manipulating information for political gain is unacceptable.
Pisas specifically addressed false claims circulating on social media regarding the reopening of Post 5 at the refinery. According to him, certain individuals with ill intent have spread misinformation, alleging that the refinery gate had been closed for the past four years. However, an official statement from 2 Bays confirmed that Post 5 is now open three times a day—early morning, midday, and evening after work hours.
At no point, Pisas emphasized, was it announced that the refinery gates would open on February 25, 2025, for job seekers. He clarified that during the reopening event, he had explicitly stated that Global Oil is currently looking to hire 320 workers.
The Prime Minister reiterated that the refinery’s reopening will proceed in phases due to the facility being closed for over five years. This gradual approach ensures that all necessary permits and legal requirements are in place to avoid legal complications that could burden the country with excessive financial claims.
Pisas expressed deep disappointment at individuals who, despite claiming to be responsible leaders, continue to spread false and malicious information, playing with the emotions of the public.
He also highlighted his administration’s efforts in improving infrastructure, tax compliance, and public education on citizens’ rights. While acknowledging that more work needs to be done, Pisas stressed that significant progress has already been made.
Regarding the refinery, he pointed to increased activity following agreements with companies such as Global Oil and Oryx, which are expected to generate more job opportunities.
Prime Minister Pisas urged the public to remain vigilant and not fall for misleading political propaganda. He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to improving the quality of life for the people of Curaçao, stating that the progress made so far is guided by faith and a vision for a better future.
