WILLEMSTAD - On Saturday, November 8, 2025, Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas met with Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof during a brief stopover in Curaçao on Schoof’s way to Colombia and Brazil. On November 9, Prime Minister Schoof will attend the European Union–Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (EU-CELAC) summit in Colombia, followed by participation in the United Nations Climate Conference (COP30) in Brazil during the week of November 10.

The main topic of discussion between the two leaders was the geopolitical situation in the Caribbean region and its potential impact on Curaçao, Aruba, and Bonaire. Prime Minister Pisas expressed concern over the current developments in U.S.–Venezuela relations, particularly regarding possible implications for regional security and tourism. Both leaders agreed to continue monitoring the situation closely, strengthen communication channels, and maintain effective coordination at the Kingdom level.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Schoof also confirmed that Curaçao, Aruba, and Sint Maarten will jointly receive a €150 million grant from the Dutch SDE++ Fund. Of this amount, €62 million is allocated to Aqualectra to modernize the island’s electricity grid, facilitating the transition to a more sustainable power generation and distribution system. On behalf of Aqualectra and the Government of Curaçao, Prime Minister Pisas expressed his appreciation for this significant contribution.
Finally, both leaders expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the meeting and agreed to continue their dialogue in December during a conference in The Hague, which will also be attended by the other Prime Ministers of the Kingdom.
