Princess Juliana Airport Closely Monitoring Tropical Storm Erin

SIMPSON BAY – Princess Juliana International Airport is closely tracking Tropical Storm Erin and preparing for any potential impacts, even though the system remains far from the Caribbean for now.

According to the latest reports, Tropical Storm Erin is located approximately 1,300 kilometers west-northwest of the Cape Verde Islands and about 2,800 kilometers east of the northern Leeward Islands.

The storm is moving westward at a speed of roughly 37 kilometers per hour, with sustained winds of 72 kilometers per hour. Weather models indicate that Erin is likely to gradually strengthen in the coming days. Current forecasts suggest the storm will pass north of the Caribbean, but the airport remains alert for any changes in its track.

Timely Updates Promised

Princess Juliana International Airport has pledged to provide timely updates if Tropical Storm Erin changes course or intensifies in a way that could affect flight operations.

As the second-busiest airport in the northeastern Caribbean, Princess Juliana serves as a vital hub for Saba, Sint Eustatius, St. Barthélemy, Anguilla, Dominica, Nevis, and Tortola. In 2025, the airport expects to handle 1.7 million passengers.
