Public Prosecutor’s Office warns 30 candidates over failure to submit donation reports

WILLEMSTAD - The Public Prosecutor’s Office (OM) has received information from the Konseho Supremo Elektoral Kòrsou (Electoral Council of Curaçao) concerning thirty candidates who may have failed to meet their legal obligations under election finance laws. These individuals reportedly have not yet submitted their required statements of received donations or their “nil declarations” confirming that no donations were received.

According to the National Ordinance on the Financing of Political Groups (LvFPG), all candidates are required to submit a detailed report of donations received during their campaign. If no donations were received, they must file a nil declaration. Failure to do so constitutes a violation of the law and may result in criminal prosecution.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office has sent official warning letters to the candidates in question. They have been granted a one-month period from the date of receipt to comply with the reporting requirements and avoid potential legal consequences.

The OM emphasized that transparency and accountability in campaign financing are essential to ensuring fair and lawful elections in Curaçao.
