Perhaps it is good for our Minister of Justice to pay more attention to car theft at the end of the year, as well as during the carnival period.
It is noticed that on social media, every day, one or more people are posting about becoming victims of car theft.
Recently, we saw a Parliamentarian who went to great lengths and efforts to recover his stolen car.
I am of the opinion that it is the appropriate time to seriously address this problem in our community.
Just as the holiday season is approaching, which will bring more people out on the streets, I propose to the Minister of Justice:
Allocate funds to have more police patrols on the streets.
Additionally, support the joyriding department with personnel and sophisticated equipment such as drones.
Also, continue with the project that former Minister of Justice Nelson Navarro initiated and former Minister of Justice Quincy Girigorie continued. I am referring to urging companies renting cars to install GPS devices in their cars.
Introduce a legislative proposal to provide individuals and companies installing GPS in their cars with a discount on car insurance premiums.
With these proposed measures, I, as an individual, would lend a helping hand to the victims of car theft and also give a hand to the Minister of Justice in curbing the car theft that is plaguing our country.
In the year 2024, we all need to live in a safer country.
