A few weeks ago, we had to say goodbye to Mr. Junior Millerson and accompany him to his final resting place. Almost all Members of Parliament were present, and both the coalition and the opposition members only praised him as a person and as chairman of parliament.
Now, a few weeks later, when his successor, Mr. Shaheen Elhage, should join parliament, it is these same opposition members who spoke so highly of praise and now stay away, and no quorum can be formed for his official accession. So, they turned out to be only Pharisees, for they even get in the way of enforcing this democratic right. It is nothing else than low politics! What shameless behavior!
The opposition members may say otherwise, but all ten have not only made a fool out of themselves, but all Curaçao. With this they give the Netherlands even more reason to indicate that we indeed cannot do it ourselves. The Netherlands will make fun of us and say: If they are not even able to form a quorum there for a public meeting to approve the successor of Mr. Millerson, how can we send the money they have requested as emergency aid? They certainly won't be able to manage that either!”
Let us go down the list of the opposition members with their displayed behavior:
Mr. Pik Pisas has proven not to have leadership qualities. A few days before the meeting in question, he indicated that he would be in the way of Mr. Elhage joining parliament as a member, and then he was absent when he was needed. Where did he go as a party leader? Or was the real leader behind the scenes different in this case?
I would not have expected otherwise from the two members of Kòrsou di Nos Tur, given their constant derogatory behavior in parliament and beyond.
They probably believe that all Curaçaoans are stupid people who follow them blindly.
Mrs. Marilyn Moses surprised me unpleasantly! The fact that a learned lady who is well aware that it is not time for political games at this critical moment, lends herself to this kind of low-level action, really bumps me. Good luck Mrs. Moses, I certainly expected otherwise!
Mr Córdoba once again wanted to show how great he is by disregarding the advice of his party leader not to disturb the democratic process in parliament.
Lennox Calmes, that poor boy does not know where he stands. Due to lack of experience and thorough knowledge, he was advised by the wrong people and took the wrong step, throwing his entire political career overboard. He is now considered an unreliable person.
Now that the ten opposition members have failed to show up for the summoned Parliamentary Assembly to discuss the accession of Mr. Elhage, this is seen as a slap in the face of those who voted for him.
It is simply embarrassing that Mr. Elhage must go to court to exercise his democratic right. I find it unacceptable that opposition members manipulate words and events to influence public opinion. I never expected to be able to see politics being played at such a low level here! And this has absolutely nothing to do with political preference, but only with respect for and common sense of the people.
Ultimately, Mr Elhage will join and we will all lose face in the kingdom and especially in the Netherlands. I wonder if the words "I love my country and the importance of my country comes first" are gone with the wind?
I am not in the habit of writing such opinion letters, but I am convinced that as a citizen of this island, in this serious and sad case, I should make my voice heard and my opinion, which I know many also share! I sincerely hope that the opposition will still consider and keep democracy high!
