I decided to write this column on Sunday eve, my son of 12 years old and his friends were playing online games as usual. I told him to ask them which option is better for me, to get a dog or date a man? They all shouted out loud: “For God sake get yourself a dog, they are loyal!
What does a teen possibly know about loyalty? Needless to say, they learned the meaning of the word from owning a dog and are aware that it is a lifetime commitment. Based on “Cesar Millan” (Cesar’s way); a dog behavior expert with more than 25 years of experience; loyalty is a natural survival mechanism. Dogs are pack animals where members depend on one another to survive. “Millan” believes that there is an alpha dog which is the head of the pack, if your dog views you as the “alpha”, he will follow your lead. In other words, dogs are loyal by instinct! I do not want to generalize, a certain percentage of men see sex as sex, and relationships as relationships, and the two do not necessarily overlap. Their male sexual desire tends to be driven by physiological rather than psychological factors, they just need to be turned on. By nature or instinct men are hunters, each one of them is loyal to his testosterone.
“Sigmund Freud” the founder of Psychoanalysis method for treating mental illness, emphasized on how the unconscious mind governs the human behavior to make the unconscious conscious. Freud had a Chow named “Jofi”, his daughter Anna had a German Shepherd named Wolf. They both had their consulting rooms at home, the dogs were always present.
Freud thought that dogs had a calming effect over people, Jofi, was his right-hand canine and accompanied him during patient sessions.
He claimed that he never needed to look at his watch during a session, as when Jofi got up and yawned it meant that the allotted hour was over. She was never late.
Freud also thought that dogs had the ability to read people’s emotional states and were great judges of character. He would assess his patient’s mental states with the help of Jofi. She would lie relatively near a patient if the patient was calm whereas she would keep her distance if the patient was anxious (Freud.org.uk)
Apart from complicated psychology, dogs and men differ in many ways.
Dogs are less demanding than men, they cannot talk but they do not mind listening to all the gossip you have, they never tell a secret. They sense if you are sad or happy. They eat whatever you prepare for them, and they are not shy to express their feelings in public!
Their ultimate happiness is being around you; dogs are happy with you even if you are a total failure, they never judge you. They do not feel threatened by your intelligence, they can always put a smile on your face. They are the best friend you can ever have, they miss you when you are gone. Even the famous “Charles De Gaulle” who led the Free French Forces against Nazi Germany in World War II, admitted that the better he gets to know men, the more he finds himself loving dogs.
At the end, Men do not take direction very well. But eventually when they realize the direction was correct, they take all the credit! © ReinaSankari 2020
