Curaçao Assesses AI Readiness Using UNESCO Methodology

WILLEMSTAD The government of Curaçao, through the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports (OWCS), has partnered with national stakeholders, including the UNESCO Chair for Small Island Developing States (SIDS) at the University of Curaçao, to conduct a validation session assessing the island's AI readiness. This assessment was carried out using UNESCO’s Readiness Assessment Methodology (RAM).

The RAM is a tool designed to evaluate a country’s capacity to implement UNESCO’s recommendations on the ethics of AI. It helps identify opportunities and challenges related to AI development, with a strong focus on human rights, transparency, and sustainability.

On Wednesday, February 26, the Council of Ministers received a presentation on the assessment’s findings. The study outlines the current state of AI in Curaçao and explores the necessary steps for further development, including regulatory frameworks and policy formation.

The official soft launch and presentation of the report to the Minister of OWCS will take place on March 7, marking an important step in Curaçao’s strategic approach to AI.
