Curaçao Updates Telecommunications Decree to Include Internet Services

WILLEMSTAD – The government of Curaçao has modernized the national Telecommunications Decree, updating regulations that previously only covered telephone, telex, and telegraph services. Internet services are now officially recognized as an essential telecommunications service, ensuring that quality standards and regulations apply to internet providers just as they do to other telecom services.

This modernization allows the telecommunications regulator to monitor and enforce internet service quality. Additionally, the minister responsible for telecommunications now has the authority to take action against providers that fail to meet established standards.

Consumer Protection and Complaint Process

Under the new decree, if a customer experiences issues with their internet connection, they must first contact their internet service provider. If the issue remains unresolved, they can file a complaint with the Regulatory Authority of Curaçao (RAC) via www.rac.cw.

On the website, users can find details on the complaint process, including the necessary steps before submitting a formal complaint. The RAC advises consumers to follow the outlined procedure first, as internet quality can be affected by multiple factors. Once a complaint is filed, the RAC will contact the provider to investigate the issue and work toward a resolution.
