Amor pa Otrobanda Bag, A Collaboration That Carries the Soul of the City

WILLEMSTAD Stichting Kaya Kaya, in collaboration with Firgos and artist , also known as Kerr de Lanooi, proudly announces the launch of the Amor pa Otrobanda bag, a wearable piece of art that captures the raw and vibrant spirit of one of Curaçao’s most iconic neighborhoods.

Every element of the bag originates from Sè’s original hand-painted artwork, created to honor the rhythm and resilience of Otrobanda. The design features a woman with domino earrings as a symbol of memory, pride, and play, as well as a man sitting on the steps, representing authenticity and everyday strength. These details express the true essence of Otrobanda, a place where history, struggle, and creativity coexist.

Otrobanda is a love story between streets and souls. The walls remember, the tiles hold memory, and the people make it move.” artist  says. “You can’t just look from the other side; you have to cross that bridge.”

As part of the Kaya Kaya’s ongoing community work, the Amor pa Otrobanda bag serves both as an art object and a contribution to social development. Proceeds will support neighborhood restoration projects, youth art programs, and local creators who continue to shape the evolving identity of Otrobanda.

This collaboration is made possible in partnership with Firgos, a leader in disposable product sales. For Firgos, it is of importance to communicate sustainability in every initiative. Their commitment to continuous sustainable growth flourishes through collaborations with organizations like Kaya Kaya that bring people together through art and dedicate their work to strengthening the community.

Starting on November 7, the bag will be available in select supermarkets and stores across Curaçao for five guilders per piece. A limited number will also be distributed as part of a corporate sponsorship initiative, inviting companies to purchase in bulk for use as gifts, employee appreciation tokens, or end-of-year packages. Each purchase reinforces a company’s commitment to local culture, sustainability, and community empowerment.

The collaboration is supported by Firgos, which has partnered with Kaya Kaya to produce and deliver the limited-edition Amor Pa Otrobanda 2025 collection. A special Gallery Expo Launch took place on November 6 at the Art House, red building under the viaduct, next to the Head office of Kaya Kaya in Otrobanda. During the launching the artist  revealed his original artwork and creative process behind the bag.

Kaya KayaFirgos and  hope that the entire community will buy or give away the Amor pa Otrobanda Bag and possess also a piece of history and art of Otrobanda.
