WILLEMSTAD – Outgoing Minister of Traffic, Transportation and Spatial Planning, Charles Cooper (MFK), has announced that Curaçao will soon implement a mandatory entrance fee for tourists.
The measure, similar to the tourist tax already in place on Bonaire and Aruba, is intended to generate additional revenue specifically earmarked for the tourism sector and the broader economic development of the island.
According to Cooper, part of the proceeds will be allocated to a guarantee fund aimed at helping local entrepreneurs secure financing. The goal is to stimulate business growth, which in turn would boost the island’s economy.
The minister emphasized that the funds will not be used for general government expenses but will go directly to support the sector that keeps the island’s economy running. While the implementation of the fee still requires a few legal steps, Cooper assured the public that the tax is indeed on its way. The exact amount of the fee has yet to be determined.
