WILLEMSTAD - The Court of First Instance of Curaçao has declared JetAir bankrupt, as announced yesterday. The airline disclosed that Mr. Van Liere and Mr. Vriezen have been appointed as trustees by the court. In a press release, JetAir attributed its financial troubles to the difficult start it experienced shortly after its launch in November 2019, compounded by the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. This hindered investments and maintenance over the following years.
Following consultations with management, the trustees have decided to fully suspend all operations. Consequently, JetAir's aircraft will remain grounded, and all future flights have been canceled indefinitely.
During this initial phase, the trustees will focus on informing passengers, employees, and other stakeholders, inventorying the company's assets, and assessing the feasibility of a potential restart for JetAir in the near future. The bankruptcy has left many JetAir customers frustrated and seeking information about their purchased tickets. Additionally, there are passengers stranded abroad who need to return to Curaçao.
JetAir operated scheduled and charter flights to and from the Caribbean and South America.
