WILLEMSTAD – The historic Pietermaai district in Willemstad is set to welcome a new addition to its growing tourism sector. This week, Minister Charles Cooper of Traffic, Transport and Urban Planning (VVRP), together with the Department of Urban Planning, officially granted a building permit for the development of a new boutique hotel in the Pietermaai tourist zone.
The project, named “Pietermaai 67-69,” will include a restaurant and 30 luxurious hotel rooms — each equipped with a private swimming pool. The development encompasses the restoration of two historic monuments and the construction of a new building on a combined lot of approximately 1,000 square meters.
Designed by architectural firm Heren2, which is also overseeing the interior design, the hotel aims to blend modern comfort with historical charm. Construction is expected to begin in July 2025 and be completed by 2027.
The multimillion-guilder investment is being funded by a consortium of local developers, Curaçaoan financial institutions, and a Dutch restoration fund. The project is seen as another step in revitalizing Pietermaai as a vibrant cultural and hospitality hub in the heart of Willemstad.
Minister Cooper emphasized that developments like these are key to boosting local employment, enhancing Curaçao’s appeal to high-end tourists, and preserving the island’s architectural heritage.
