Costa Rica Earthquake deaths

WILLEMSTAD – At least two people have been killed by the earthquake today in Costa Rica. The earthquake with a force of 7.6 on the Richter scale and resulted in power outages and buildings vibrating, failures in telephone  network, including in the capital San José.

A red cross spokesman said that there are at least two deaths. One of the victims got a heart attack, the other person was killed by a collapsed wall.

President Laura Chinchilla of Costa Rica said that there are no notifications received about great damage to buildings and infrastructure. The earthquake was reason for a tsunami warning for coastal areas of Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Panama. That was repealed a few hours later.

The epicenter of the earthquake was located in the West, near the coast, 140 km from the capital San José. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the earthquake could be felt in Nicaragua and Panama.

Earlier earthquakes
Costa Rica was hit by an earthquake In 1991 with the same strength. There were 47 dead. In January 2009 there was an earthquake of 6.1 on the Richter scale, death toll was 40.
